Hideaway Club are a Derbyshire four piece, who, after a couple of singles and a strong debut EP offering are back. The quartet returns in 2024 with the brand new single Over You.
The tune offers a somewhat more mature glimpse of Hideaway Club, with shades of jangly Blossoms-esque tones undercut with a moody demeanour. James Bull sounds great here, his voice working nicely over both the groovy verses and splashy, hi-hat fulled chorus.
Over You has the feeling of an early Happy Monday’s tune, but with a dialled-down sense of E-addled fun and more lovesick angst. There are shades of early New Order (especially in the thunderous, click-track-like drums) in what they’re doing here, and there are a couple of fantastic flourishes where guitar, drums and vocals coalesce with sharp stabs to add superb colour to the piece.
2024 is certainly starting strong for Hideaway Club, and if this is indicative of what’s to come, then we can look forward to big things from HC.
