Sophie May is back, and she’s brought new single ‘No More Birthdays’ with her.
A short but sweet track, co-written with Matt Maltese and Josh Scarbrow, was seemingly supposed to appear on Aardman’s Chicken Run 2: Dawn of the Nugget, but somehow got cut, terrible decision by the studio really.
Having an upbeat sound throughout the song, it certainly wouldn’t seem out of place in a film soundtrack (Tarantino, we’re looking at you) or even a musical. Its spaghetti western and Beach Boys styled chords and the multiple vocal melodies blend the song together beautifully. The song’s backing vocals are oozing with energy, making the track feel so vibrant and so alive.
It’s a beautiful track to add to an already beautiful discography. This is Sophie's first release of 2024, and the year for her is already looking incredibly hopeful, we'd love to see her make a couple of appearances on festival lineups in the coming months.
