Arts Club Liverpool is making a grand return after a break from live shows. It can’t get better than this: two back to back, sold out shows with The Wombats to celebrate the much loved venue reopening.
I made my way down for the first night and it did not disappoint, arriving to find a long queue of excited fans eager to make their way inside.
Opening tonight is Manchester band ‘The Guest List’. Formed between a group of mates from school, this young five- piece are making noise in the scene with a set of impressive gigs lined up with popular names such as Two Door Cinema Club and Seb Lowe. They entertained the crowd with a catalogue of memorable songs, some of which released late last year on their debut EP.
It's clear these lads are going places, armed with catchy indie tunes and a tight live set.
The room was packed and itching for the main event. The Wombats walked on to screams of joy and immediately jumped into their opening track ‘Cheetah Tongue.’ The crowd jumped up and down in excitement, shouting out the words. This explosive opening set the tone and we all knew we were in for a special night. They continued their set with more of their popular indie classics, pausing to tell stories about fond memories they’ve made in Liverpool, taking time to connect with everyone. 'Pink Lemonade' was especially energetic with everyone riled up. The crowd matched the band's volume with every word being screamed back.
The Wombats kept the room electric from start to finish, opening Arts Club back up with a bang. The crowd were as pumped up as when they stepped in and threw everything they had into this last burst of energy finishing off the night with fan favourite ‘Turn’.
It's nights like these that make the Arts Club what it is, and if the opening night is anything to go by - it's going to be even bigger and better.
