London-based punk-rock band Millie Manders & The Shut Up returned to Nottingham, this time they graced the stage of Nottingham’s favourite music venue The Bodega. This show was the most anticipated leg of the tour that it sold out immediately during the pre-release ticket sale, which is a first in the band’s history to do so.
The show kicked off with support from Sheffield-based band “Air Drawn Dagger” Their signature heavy Synth Bass and pop-rock elements made them the perfect band to warm the crowd up. They made everyone in the crowd feel part of the show as they heavily interacted with the crowd, even making us all start a mosh-pit. I couldn’t think of a better band to support Millie & The Shut-up on this tour than Air Drawn Dagger as they certainly know how to engage with a crowd.
With the support ending their set and successfully getting everyone warmed up, Millie Manders & The Shut Up stepped onto the stage for the very first time at The Bodega. The spotlights turned on and the crowd was greeted by the band’s first song of the night “Silent Screams” This was the perfect song choice to show the audience what to expect for the night ahead. Millie and the band performed a variety of songs from their 2020 debut album.
“Telling Truths, Breaking Ties”
The band also performed an unreleased song from their upcoming album which was a pleasant surprise for all the hardcore fans in the room.
By the end of the show everyone was singing every song that was being performed, the band ended the night by performing Your Story which had everyone screaming the lyrics at the top of their lungs. This was the perfect song to end the show with and it was a very beautiful moment to see everyone in the crowd coming together and sharing a moment with one another.
As someone who has never seen or heard of Millie Manders & The Shut Up before reviewing the show, I am pleasantly surprised by them and the way they shined on stage. The stage presence from the bad was shining from start to finish. They certainly know how to engage a crowd and put on an outstanding show. Since being able to experience them live I must admit they have been on repeat since and they’re in my top 5 of best artists that I’ve discovered this month.
