Jorja Smith seems to be taking the world by storm. With sell out tours and million upon millions of monthly listeners on streaming platforms, its been nothing but a warm rise to fame. A pinch me moment at its greatest length, Howl went to go watch her set at the Albert Hall in Manchester.
Immediately, following entering the venue Ella More sent waves through the venues air. Without even reaching the stairs, you’d have thought Ella was the headline act for the evening. A roar of appreciation kicked through the venue as a stunning performance completed with incredible vocals left everyone scrambling for another listen.
This tour is an intimate one for Jorja Smith, the first date being in Birmingham then to Manchester. Tension to catch glimpse of the Midlands superstar. The set with complied full of new album rockets with ‘falling or flying’ taking full force the hall. A highlight had to be the kickstart of ‘Try Me’, the electric atmosphere it conjured up was visible from every angle. Though before, ‘Try Me’ was played, a percussion solo began the concert and set an intro to this new era of Jorja.
Jorja was accompanied on stage by a band of 8 members- in what felt like an instrumental thrill ride. One that was very worth the money. ‘Blue Lights’ served as a surreal jump to the past. The lighting perfected perfectly to tease the song as the flood lighting shone blue ever so more. Though ‘Blue Lights’ may have provided butterflies, there was no rest as the setlist engaged everyone.
The radio hit, ‘Little Things’ spun the venue out of control. “Who’s ready to have a dance” was the words as the gig was turned into a clubbing atmosphere. Unstoppable bouncing causing an uncontrollable level of entertainment. Not only the floor seemed to be rocking as the balcony area was packed to the brim of Jorja lovers. It was a main character moment for almost everyone in the venue. In what feels like a great servant to her mighty arsenal of songs, ‘ Little Things’, hits the spot greatly.
Jorja Smith remains an exclusive catch with only intimate shows announced at the current moment. Shows in Los Angeles and New York City will take centre stage as fans are eagerly made to wait for yet another experience like this one.
