After a long 5 years, the much-loved Jamie T made his return to Sheffield for a sold-out night of singalongs. The Wimbledon-born performer appeared at the O2 Academy on 15th November and certainly did not disappoint the rowdy fans, playing hits from all 5 albums.
The much-awaited show sold out within minutes as fans across England were able to get their hands on tickets to see some of the best indie anthems we all know and love.
Entering the venue, we were met with the heat of the 2,100 capacity crowd. The room was filled with likeminded people ready to celebrate most recent album, The Theory Of Whatever and this was obvious from the second he began playing – the guitar strings met with lyrics pouring through the entire venue.
16 songs were played throughout the main set of the gig, some being high-energy and mosh-pit establishing, whilst others were more relaxed – allowing people to take a breather.
The 1 hour 45 minute concert flew by, and shortly towards the end, Jamie and his 3 charismatic band members announced the last song. ‘If You Got The Money’ kickstarted the chaos of the night as the fans let loose, knowing the concert was almost over.
To nobody’s surprise, the ensemble returned to play the three final and most iconic tracks of the night. Despite being anticipated by everybody, the opening lines ‘Sheila goes out with her mate stella’ caused a huge reaction from the audience. The lyrics were sang in perfect synchronisation and the feeling of nostalgia could be felt throughout the room.
Some may say that seeing ‘Sheila’ live could not be topped, but this was shortly disproven when the song was followed by ‘Sticks n Stones’ and then ‘Zombie’. The atmosphere was like no other. After the opening verse, we were teased with a 2 minute pause which felt like forever. This break caused the mosh pit to grow wider and the excitement between everybody increase by the second. The song continued and so did the crowd. Crowd-surfers were passed above heads and fans were singing their hearts out in every direction.
Jamie T has definitely held onto the captivating energy he holds whilst performing, even after his 5 year hiatus and on behalf of everybody who attended, the night was definitely one to remember.
